What is a Minecraft UUID?
A UUID is the permanent ID of a player account in the 8-4-4-4-12 format. Players can change their name, but the UUID stays the same, which is why servers store bans, whitelists, permissions and player data by UUID.
What is the difference between a premium and an offline UUID?
A premium UUID is assigned by Mojang to a Minecraft Java account and is the same on every server. An offline UUID is calculated by the server from the name alone when server.properties has online-mode=false. The same name therefore has two different UUIDs depending on that setting.
What do I need a UUID for?
For manual entries in whitelist.json, ops.json or banned-players.json, for permissions in plugins such as LuckPerms, and to recover player data after a name change, because the files in the playerdata folder are named by UUID.
Why was the name not found?
There is no Minecraft Java account with that name, or the name has been changed. Check the spelling. Bedrock accounts use different IDs and are not in the Java account database.
