Nightingale dedicated server setup - difficulty and admin password

How to set up a Nightingale server: connection password, difficulty, admin password for kicking and banning, player limit, updates and connection issues.

Nightingale is a survival game in a Victorian fantasy world where you travel between Realms through portals. A dedicated server lets your group play in one world that is always online.

Settings in the panel (Startup)

All the important options are set in the game panel, without editing files:

FieldWhat it does
Connection Passwordthe password players enter when connecting
Admin Passwordthe administrator password
Difficultydifficulty of the starting realm: easy, medium, hard, extreme
Max Playersthe player limit

Restart the server after a change.

Player limit

Nightingale is designed for small groups. More than 6 players is not officially supported and may be unstable. For most groups 4-6 people is the sweet spot.

Difficulty

The Difficulty setting applies to the starting realm of the world. On easier levels enemies deal less damage and survival forgives more mistakes. If it is your first playthrough, start with easy or medium.

In-game admin

A player who knows the Admin Password can authenticate in the game as an administrator and kick and ban other players. Set it even if you only play with friends - it helps when someone unwanted learns the server password.

Keep the admin password to yourself and trusted people.

Connecting

Players find the server in the in-game server list or connect directly by IP address and port from the Network tab. The game will ask for the Connection Password.

Updates

Nightingale gets regular updates. The server downloads them by itself on restart (the Auto Update option). Players with a newer game version than the server cannot join, so restart the server after a game update.

Before a big update, back up the world in the Backups tab. You can schedule a daily backup and restart in the client area or in the Schedules tab.

Performance

A Nightingale server for a few players needs about 6-8 GB of RAM. Large settlements and many open realms increase memory usage.
